Thread Veins are are very small, red, blue or purple veins that are most commonly visible on the cheeks, nose legs, thighs, calves and ankles and the backs of knees. As many as 20% of 20 year old women and 50% of 50 year olds have thread veins. It’s estimated that at least half of the adult female population is plagued with this common cosmetic problem. Thread veins vary in type, size and colour, ranging from fine red ones to larger purple or deeper blue veins. The causes of thread veins are unknown although they may be caused by changes in temperature, smoking, hormonal changes, alcohol and prolonged standing as well as being a possible inherited condition.

Thread veins treatment
Sclerotherapy is often used to treat thread veins in the legs. A treatment session takes approximately 30-40 minutes. The number of treatment sessions depends on how many areas need to be treated but we generally recommend on average 4 treatments.

Microsclerotherapy involves injection with a very fine, almost invisible needle. Through this an injection of fluid is introduced which sticks the walls of the vein together so that blood cannot return.

Veinwave is a revolutionary treatment for red (spider) veins on the legs or face. This thermo-coagulation technique is a complete solution being effective, totally safe and relatively painless with only minimal temporary bruising, producing immediate results with no side effects.

PhotoDerm is a new form of treatment that uses high intensity light therapy to safely eliminate spider veins. The PhotoDerm machine emits brief flashes of intense pulsed light, similar to a camera flash, which destroys unsightly small thread veins so that they fade and slowly disappear. Treatment is applied by placing a hand-held unit on your skin. The process is relatively painless being described as a brief stinging sensation.

Other treatments for thread veins include high-intensity light treatment.
